Artist Kate Tova completed the new version of her signature heart mural on November 2, 2025, bringing its explosion of color, movement and joyful energy into the next chapter of Umbrella Alley.
The heart is more than a recreation of an old favorite. It is a new interpretation created specifically for the evolving Umbrella Alley 2.0 art collection at 366 Jefferson Street in Fisherman’s Wharf.
It also feels right at home in San Francisco — a city that has never been particularly shy about wearing its heart on its sleeve.

The Kate Tova Heart Returns to Umbrella Alley
Kate Tova originally brought her colorful heart artwork to the first Umbrella Alley in Fisherman’s Wharf, where her expressive pieces quickly became part of the Alley’s collection of interactive murals.
The original murals were unmistakably Kate Tova: intense color, flowing texture, layers of paint and a sense of movement that seems to burst outward from the wall.
When Umbrella Alley began its move and rebuild, we wanted Kate’s heart to be part of the new space.

Kate adopted an Australian cattle dog named Toochi from a San Francisco shelter after the dog had experienced abuse and arrived anxious and fearful.
Kate had previously fostered more than 40 dogs and began working with Toochi through patience, learning exercises — and eventually painting.

Umbrella Alley 2.0 is a self-funded community art project.
