The Backstory: We Defeated the Fisherman’s Wharf Winds

If you visited the original Umbrella Alley, you probably remember the magic of looking up and seeing a ceiling full of color.

What you may not know is that the famous San Francisco waterfront winds treated those original umbrellas like kites with a personal vendetta.

So we turned the alley into a mini wind-testing lab. We tried experimental shapes, stronger materials, colorful new designs, and more than a few ideas that failed in spectacular fashion.

But after countless tests, we finally cracked the code.

Our new spinning umbrella sculptures are officially wind-tested, durable, colorful, and ready for their big debut above Umbrella Alley 2.0.
