Umbrella Alley 2.0 – Built by Artists, Supported by You
Umbrella Alley Version 2 builds on the fun and creativity of our original location.
Umbrella Alley is a testament to the unstoppable spirit of art and the artists who create it.
When COVID shut us indoors, muralists took to the streets, painting boarded storefronts and brightening San Francisco’s neighborhoods. The first Umbrella Alley grew out of that moment — starting with a few murals in a festive setting, then expanding to include the now-iconic colorful umbrellas (from our friends in Portugal).
As the years went on, artists faced even greater challenges in an uncertain economy. Umbrella Alley’s mission became clear: support Bay Area artists by commissioning them to create spectacular murals and installations.
The first Alley took four years to build, evolving piece by piece into a joyful gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Though that location closed, we are now building Umbrella Alley 2.0 in this new and amazing space. And just like before, it will continue to grow and change — with new murals and art installations always on the horizon.
Umbrella Alley thrives thanks to the generous support of visitors like you.
Your donations help keep our mission alive and ensure more artists can keep painting.
Special thanks to our landlords, the Hoppe and Berbey families, for graciously supporting the creation of the new Umbrella Alley in this space.
Want to help keep the magic alive? Snap a photo, share it with the world using #UmbrellaAlleySF, and celebrate the incredible local artists who make this space so special.

Umbrella Alley is an LLC with a non profit 501(c)(3) Fiscal Sponsor.
The 1st version of the Alley was sponsored and built by the San Franciso Electric Tour Company. When COVID hit and tours came to a halt, we saw an opportunity to sprinkle some joy around our corner of San Francisco. With many muralists and artists out of work, we teamed up to transform the space into a colorful, happy haven.
By the time the world reopened, Umbrella Alley had blossomed into a vibrant spot full of smiles, laughter, and Insta-worthy vibes.
Unfortualtly the building / location on Beach Street was sold and Umbrella Alley needed a new home.
We moved to a new location at 366 Jefferson Street and started build the alley again.
Thanks for stopping by Version 2.0! While you’re here, why not level up your San Francisco experience? Check out one of our epic private tours.
